VIDEOS: A Royal Family Affair at Bear Creek 2012 feat. Soulive, Lettuce, Dumpstaphunk, Nigel Hall & Alecia Chakour, etc.

Eric Krasno & Chapter 2

On Saturday, November 10, 2012, the Royal Family Records artists took over the Purple Hat Stage at Bear Creek Music & Art Festival with sets by Nigel Hall & Alecia Chakour, Alan Evans Trio, Eric Krasno’s Chapter 2, Soulive, Lettuce and finally the Royal Family Dumpstajam.

Funk It was in attendance and is now able to bring a little bit of this action to the comfort of your computer/TV screen… Oh, and pay special attention to the massive George Porter Jr sit-in with Dumpstaphunk on the last video, which includes a 12 minute version of Neil Young & Crazy Horse’s “Down By The River”!

Bear Creek Music & Arts Festival’s 2011 DumpstaJam ft. Dumpstaphunk & Friends

A tradition since the very first Bear Creek Music & Art Festival in 2007 is the Saturday night DumpstaJam featuring Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk and all of their friends. In fact, it was hearing recordings of the DumpstaJam each year that convinced me that I HAD to make it down to Live Oak, Florida to experience the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park for myself. (and it sort of prompted me to start this blog)

2011 was my first time to Bear Creek and I was able to capture a thick slice of funk, the likes of which can only truly be experienced late night in New Orleans or late night in these Florida woods…

PART ONE:
(1) Fight The Power [Isley Brothers cover] (w/ Freekbass & Nigel Hall) >
(2) Bass Duel (Freekbass vs. Louis Cato) >
(3) What Is Hip? [Tower of Power cover] (w/ Freekbass, Louis Cato, Nigel Hall, Eric Krasno & horns)
(4) Dr. Funkenstein [Parliament cover] (w/ Jonathan Lloyd, Rashawn Ross, Khris Royal, Ryan Zoidis, Louis Cato on trombone, ??? on sousaphone, & Nigel Hall)

PART TWO:
(1) Miss You [Rolling Stones cover] (w/ Matt Grondin on first guitar solo, Joey Porter, Billy Iuso on second guitar solo, Nigel Hall on just a little organ)
(2) Livin’ In A World Gone Mad (w/ Andrew Block & Skerik)
(3) Higher [Sly & The Family Stone cover] (w/ Eric Krasno, Zach Deputy, Corey Glover, Derrick Freeman, Louis Cato, Nigel Hall, & horns)

FYI, Dumpstaphunk is on the Live Music Archive and you can stream and/or download many live recordings: http://www.archive.org/details/Dumpstaphunk
