Herbie Hancock & The Headhunters 10/20/76 Don Kirshner’s New Rock Concert UNCIRCULATED VIDEOS

UPDATE 10/11/13: It appears the the video has been removed from youtube, but I have re-uploaded the .MP4 video download.

Another uncirculated video of Herbie Hancock & The Headhunters? Last year, we brought you the uncirculated Musikladen 1974 footage. This year, we bring you footage from 1976 on the Don Kirshner’s New Rock Concert TV show.

This lineup of the Headhunters includes original members Bennie Maupin (playing a Lyricon) and the black octopus himself, Paul Jackson, on bass. We also have Wah Wah Watson on guitar and James Levi on drums. And of course Mr. Herbie Hancock on an array of state of the art keyboards. We also get a rare chance to see/hear Herbie singing without a vocodor!

Gentle Thoughts, Doin’ It, Hang Up Your Hang Ups:

The DVD download is here (it includes the full TV episode, including some bad ’70′s pop rock group called England Dan & John Ford Coley).
The download of the edited .MP4 file is here (1.82gb).
What you see on youtube above is the complete footage.

Now cross your fingers that some video footage exists of the brief 1977 Headhunters lineup with Jaco Pastorius on bass.

John Medeski, Adam Deitch & Skerik 1.5.12 @ Le Poisson Rouge, New York City – VIDEOS with AUDIO UPGRADE

Shortly before boarding Jam Cruise 10, Adam Deitch and Skerik joined John Medeski for an improvisational freak out at New York City’s Le Poisson Rouge. It was a pre-show for NYC’s 2012 Winter Jazz Fest and also featured Jessica Lurie‘s new ensemble (featuring Will Bernard) , Marc Ribot‘s Young Philadelphians, and up and comers, Red Baraat (who have a crazy sound of New Orleans brass band funk mixed with Indian bhangra) .

Some of you may have noticed that our friend jamjoints posted 40+ minutes of video of the Medeski, Deitch, Skerik set on youtube last week. He was gracious enough to supply me with the raw video files so I could upgrade the audio (kindly recorded on stage by Mr. Eric McRoberts). So here it is. 40+ minutes of improv including a cover of John Coltrane‘s A Love Supreme.

BTW, the audio download for the Medeski, Deitch, Skerik set is here.

Also, if you want more of Medeski Deitch & Skerik, check out this previous blog post: http://funkit.virose.net/?p=1027.

And one more thing. Don’t forget to follow @jamjoints on twitter for daily postings of new recordings on etree and Live Music Archive.

The Roots at Lowlands Festival 2011: Pro-Shot VIDEOS

Now that The Roots are on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon they can’t log 100+ days a year on the road like they used to. However, they apparently still manage to sneak in weekend trips to Europe for festival gigs like this.

Here, I bring you a full ~60 minute pro-shot tv broadcast video of The Roots at the Lowlands Festival in Biddinghuizen, Netherlands on August 21, 2011. At this point in time, The Roots were bass-less. Owen Biddle, their bass player since early 2008, had just left the band and they hadn’t yet picked up new bass player, Mark Kelley. Not to worry, Damon Bryson, aka Tuba Gooding Jr., holds the low end down on sousaphone.

This video initially appeared as a DVD download over at dimeadozen.org. I took the liberty of splitting it and posting to youtube so a wider audience can enjoy it. So enjoy…

Also, pay special attention to video 5 of 5, where Black Thought blacks the f— out spitting Kool G Rap’s “Men @ Work” verses. Absolutely ridiculous.
