Braxton Cook – alto saxophone

Notes: This was the 4th night of a 4 night run at this venue. This run was also the debut of Christian’s new quintet. The first set was recorded from the front table on the right side. The second set was recorded from the second table dead center, so the sound is more balanced. Both renditions of Body and Soul are without Christian. For the second half of set two, Christian brought out his custom “reverse flugelhorn”, but never played it. For photos of the two horns, check this page: http://foresightandafterthought.wordpress.com/2012/08/02/christian-scott-atunde-adjuah/

10/22/12 UPDATE: It looks like Christian Scott is featured on a studio version of No Church In The Wild by a supergroup of next level jazz musicians calling themselves NEXT Collective. Their EP just dropped on iTunes today and the group is made up of Christian Scott, Matt Stevens, Jamire Williams, Ben Williams, Kris Bowers, Walter Smith III, Logan Richardson and Gerald Clayton. Check out their new EP over at The Revivalist.

UPDATE: A new audio source has surfaced, which, in my opinion, has slightly better quality. Audio taper travelinbeat posted his recording of this superjam in February of 2013 as 24 bit flac files (which are no longer available). I have converted to 16 bit flac and you can download travelinbeat’s new source right here:

MP3 (travelinbeat source): NO LONGER AVAILABLE

16BIT FLAC (travelinbeat source): NO LONGER AVAILABLE

24BIT FLAC (travelinbeat source): NO LONGER AVAILABLE

Also, Bonnaroo365 has posted 4 youtube episodes about this superjam, a total of 39 minutes of interviews, behind the scenes, and live footage. The videos have been embedded at the bottom of this post.

Thanks to one of my close friends we have an excellent audio recording of D’Angelo‘s first U.S. performance in 12 years! On the morning of June 10, 2012 at 12:15am central time, Questlove hosted the Bonnaroo Music Festival Superjam and the rest is history. Finally, the Soulquarians reunited after 12 years!
